I am a French artist who has lived in Scotland most of her adult life. My work features themes of identity, origin, memory and change, be it people's or the land's and is heavily influenced by the recent political events in Scotland and the world.
Working with discarded materials, long lost treasures and carefully selected junk, I create soft sculptures with a surreal feel to them and I hope to challenge people's preconceptions about textile art.
The newspaper pages I choose to use are always relevant to the final piece; the electrical and network cables were gleaned from refurbished data centres; the plastic tubing is from pub beer pumps. I create my own yarns from donated fabrics and unexpected materials. I use what are considered feminine techniques but materials that often come from male dominated environments.
My work is almost always three-dimensional. I use recycled and unconventional non precious (to others) materials with traditional textile techniques. I experiment with materials and techniques and need to create texture, letting let the materials guide my work through an almost hypnotic state. This allows me the freedom to produce challenging but sculptural pieces.
